Monthly CP Challenge: September 2013

This month's crease pattern challenge is Jon Tucker's Phoenix

This model was one of my first forays into deciphering crease patterns. The pleats might look daunting, but even if you are a beginner, don't be intimidated. Look closer and you should realize that the reference points are relatively easy to find. I think it's a fun model to fold, especially the wings. =D

The CP may be found here.

His official fold

If you get stuck, there are some progress photos in his gallery, however give the crease pattern a good try before looking!

Rules:
- The submission must have been folded this month.
- Have fun!
- This month judge is Razzmatazz

So i noticed that the end of the month was today... so i thought i would give this model a crack. Pretty easy and fun model to fold. Hope you like my interpretation... Folded from a 45cm square of tissue foil :D

Wow langko! Your interpretation rivals the original itself. Great work.

Very good fold Langko!

A bit late and not the cleanest of folds here is my first try from 30cm Terry Tissue Foil. I guess with real Tissue Foil it would have turned out way better. Somehow the paper prevented me from shaping it any better since it just didn't want to stay in place. Next time I'll use something that keeps its shape better.

Hooray! I was getting worried for a bit there, but I'm glad to see some last minute entries!

Sorry for not getting a post up sooner.
And the winner is...

Langko!

An excellent fold, clearly showing Langko's aptitude with folding wings (the part of this that I love the most). The face, the wings, the general pose--it's great!

Special note to the only runner up, but yet still a gorgeous fold by none other than...

Origami_8!
Coming in a close second with a well-folded rendition. Superb cleanliness is evident in Anna's fold of this model (perhaps even cleaner than Langko). It looks like you have kept it simple and I do admire that, but I think to fully capture the look of a phoenix, more details are required--at least for this design.

But to both of you, beautiful folds in the knick of time!

So Langko is the victor this round and will judge October's CP-challenge and will choose the CP for November!

Wow thanks very much for the complement! I am glad you like it.

Thanks Anna :)
Good job on your fold. I like the colour. And yeah, I found that whenever I have used Terry's tissue foil it was very difficult to shape... I guess I am more used to actual tissue foil. Good luck if you choose to refold the model out of different paper!

Thanks very much for your comment about my fold. I put a lot of effort in to shaping it so I am glad you like how it turned out :) I look forward to judging this month and choosing a cp for November!
