22.5 degree technique

Hi everyone,

Can anyone explain me what "22.5 degree technique" is in designing crease patterns?
Is it a different approach than what TreeMaker and Tree theory does for uni-axial bases?

22.5deg technique is simply a way of fixing the folds in a crease pattern to radiate at multiples of 22.5deg (as opposed to 15deg, box- or hex-pleating, and irregular structures). I personally find it trickier to use than other methods, even if the collapses are easier, but I've been deliberately using it for newer models, and it's getting easier.

I honestly don't know how to use Treemaker, and I'm not sure if you can fix the angles at 22.5deg.

Actually, I think it might be easier to design like that without Treemaker, because as long as you're familiar with the molecules used (bird base, triangle, etc.), it's pretty easy to combine them to make whatever tree you want. You'll need to be a pretty decent artist, though, to sketch them out by hand.

well , so is there any tutorial or a step by step guide for designing ( even a simple model works) a model with 22.5 degree technique? so I can see the process and learn. u know actually right now I have no idea that where should I start.

also I have this thought that cirlce packing and tree theory is only for uniaxial bases. am I right or not?

and I am familiar with the term molecules, but don't know how to use them together and how these building blocks can combine with each other

can you send me some CP and a picture of your own models ( I rather simple ones so that I can study them )

This is the only 22.5deg CP I have as of yet, as I'm still teaching myself the technique, but you should be able to see how I tied the different molecules together to produce the desired tree.

It's a pretty easy CP to collapse, in my opinion, so see if it helps you with the technique at all.
