Origami Frog World Record

Hi there,

I am attempting to break the world record for the longest leap of an origami frog and wondered if you had any tips on how to achieve this massive jump. The current record stands at 72.1cm and is held by an American lady.

The Rules are as follows:

- I must use a 15cm by 15cm square
- The paper must be 80gsm (Standard A4 paper weight)
- I must use an 'American Jumping Frog by Kennedy (Published in a FOCA annual)' as my template/instructions. (Does anyone know where to find this particular template? I have found normal American Jumping Frog instructions so far...)

....and that's it! Any advice or info on how to get the best folds would be much appreciated.

Where do these rules come from? Why is no smaller, stiffer paper allowed and why exactly that frog? Frogs folded from smaller stiffer paper can jump further with ease.

One tip that I experienced is that short fingernails help when making an Origami frog jump, but you need to find out the right technique on your own.

If the frog is a model by Marc Kennedy, you might ask him for instructions. I guess if its his model he should know where to find them.

This was discussed not so long ago in the O-List. There seems to be some confussion, because Marc Kennedy told us that the jumping frog he diagrammed was for folding a business card.

I suggest you try to contact Lisa Hodson, who reported the record. She could give you more details about which exactly is the model.
