I've been lurking for a while. I've enjoyed reading the contributions and I find the forum lots more stimulating that ori-l.
I am now tempted to say something on the forum, though sadly not about origami.
I am very saddened, even shocked, by the unkind words from several contributors aimed at rockmanex6. I cannot understand why he's causing you so much anger and bad feeling. He hasn't been offensive, rude, obscene, libellous or unkind... I couldn't say the same about some other contributors remarks about him! Some folk of you seem to have remarkably short fuses.
Certainly what he writes is a little cryptic, but essentially quite harmless. If others don't like what he writes, they have no obligation to read his postings.
If it were down to me (it isn't, and I don't want it to be!!) I would vigorously oppose any moves to restrict his postings. I confess I'd rather miss him if he disappeared.
I totally disagree with you, Mr. Brill.
the problem with his posts is, that it's obviously annoying a lot of people here, not only me.
and again: if he was only bad in englisch, that would be accaptable, but he's continuing writing rubbish. a bad grammar or a small vocabulary, is not the point. he's obviously writing the words wrong wilfully. I browsed to his postings and found these "interpretations" of Tanteidan:
Short fuse, Dave? I think not. I've been dealing with him since 2002 on the O-list. When he started out, he was terse, and his spelling was atrocious, but at least it was intelligible. I can live with that. Somewhere along the line, he decided to go cryptic. People tried to take it all in stride, and attempted to carry on the conversations he partcipated in, but inevitably discussions broke down as more and more people got suckered into abandoning the topic to ask him what he meant. That's my main beef with his postings: they disrupt the conversation. I don't expect perfect English (no one could do that consistently, anyway), nor do I mind a bit of silliness, but I don't like humour ad naseum, especially when it is deliberately done in disruptive manner.

So would I. I don't want him to disappear. I don't want him to stop posting. He's proved that he has good things to contribute if he wants to. Just try to make some sense. Bad English is okay. When the occasion arises, I dust off my bad Japanese, my bad French, and my mediocre Chinese. I know I sound terrible when I speak those languages, but I do what it takes to be understood. Since we have proof that rockmanex6 is capable of communicating in an understandable fashion, all I'm asking is that he continue to do so, both here and on the O-list.
Okay, I just found this topic and I thought I should add my own my own little design to it (well, technically it's a variation...). Sorry it took me so long to find this topic.
It's a snare drummer, and it's fairly easy to make. It's a variation of Robert J. Lang's violinist, made by simply making two bows instead of a bow and a violin and by unfolding the tails of the suit, stretching it out and shaping it to make a drum!
