Maekawa Devil ears

Post by merman »

I have folded the devil many many many times and can even do it by heart, but I always had trouble making the ears look great... I know how to unleash the flaps that are in the wings but never seem to 'twist' them the right way...

So: I know (also from the CP) how to fold the point inside the wing but when and how do you fold it up for the ears? Do you first pleat the wings and then shape the point for the ear or do you fold the point out and then pleat the wings?

does anyone have pictures how to do it properly???

I can read a little bit of Japanese and the character in the CP in Viva! Origami actually means 'ear'

I can't read Japanese (and I don't have the book), so that's pretty neat. It's just that in every picture of the devil I've seen, those two points are spikes coming out of the devil's shoulders.

It's possible to move the point to the head, but since the point comes out from the wing and isn't long enough to effectively move to the head, I don't think it works out very well.

Fold out the points for the ears first, then the wings. Also, the folding sequence diagrammed by Hideo Komatsu in Tanteidan Magazine #56 is the best version I've seen. Steps 96-98 show how to position the ear flap. Steps 111-113 show the wings.
