Is step 21 some kind of squash fold? I can't read japanese so I don't know what the instructions say underneath.

I haven't folded it yet.
But yes, judging from the looks of the next step (Step 22), it does look like a squash fold.
Based on my meager Japanese translation skills, the text on step 21 says, "Widen the inside by folding the crease you made in step 18."

Thank you for the translation. That fits with what is happening I powered it through but to get the peak I really had to force it into place from inside. I suspect it should flow easier than what I experienced. This is recent issue so I might have to wait for feedback from others that try this model.
