Yoshizawa butterflys

Post by Froy »

Hi

I was trying to reverse-engineer this butterfly by Akira Yoshizawa:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/13845707@N02/2348743992/

but I guess that the structure is not the same of his traditional butterfly, I also know that diagrams for this butterfly are published in a book: Origami Museum Animal I.

I will appreciate any hint you can give me on how to start.

Thanks in advance.

Sara has a video:

Not exactly the same, but similar.

It looks as though it's a modified waterbomb base.

Yup. I think that most of Yoshizawa's butterflies are some type of waterbomb base.

That butterfly should be a little variation of the classic butterfly on "Origami Museum Animal I"
You should follow the same diagrams, but starting from a rectangular paper 3x4, Master Yoshizawa indicated to valley fold 1/4th of a square sheet.

I imagine that Froy does NOT have a copy of Origami Museum Animal I.

ooops...
I didn't read carefully...
Anyway, it's possible to obtain that butterfly following Sara Adam's instructions only starting from a rectangle 3x4.
