If you're going to use (light) pencil marks for references, use a putty eraser. No eraser dust and less abrasive on the paper.

I put my pencil marks on the side that won't show. If it does show, i take a putty eraser to it afterwards. With the pencil marks, i use 4h or higher (if i can find the higher, i use it).

Something I've done in the past (not on this model) is to mark creases on the side where they are valley folds - i.e. do all valleys, then turn it over and mark all "mountains" (which are now also valleys because you are on the reverse). The inside of a valley fold is never visible (unless it's a partial fold or a bend). This helped me a great deal with collapsing, but I guess on a complicated grid like this one it might get quite confusing to draw in the first place.

Oh I meant to ask, can we standardize the name to Ryujin from now on, since that's how it's called in Challenge to Super Complex Origami?

I'm not sure if it's widely known, but part of the "problem" comes from the fact that the Japanese character じ
can be written as either "ji" or "zi". There are a few different systems for the Romanization of Japanese characters. One of the systems is aimed more at non-Japanese/Western people learning Japanese. Pronunciation is more accurate, but the system is less "regular". Another is designed more for Japanese people writing using the Latin alphabet. It's a more regular system but doesn't pay so much attention to pronunciation.

Strictly speaking, much like the "r" and "l" pronunciation, the "j" and "z" is actually somewhere between the two. And since the syllables "ji" and "zi" represent the same character, they're both correct. Also, "ryu" really should either be "ryuu" or "ryū"

Also, Kamiya himself uses "Ryuzin" and "Ryujin" seemingly interchangably on his site.

That makes sense. But given that the model (and its predecessors) was around before the book, trying to standardize the name now probably won't help much.

It might help to put the variant spelling in the title...

I got paper 3 days ago and started creasing the grid on one half, since I'm doing the half cp method.. I finally finished the grid!
Once I get further in my folds I'll post pictures of the progress.

you have to precrease most, if not all of the crease pattern if you want to be able to collapse the model with ease...though i wouldn't call ryujin easy. notice the scales take up about 70% of the crease pattern, also.

I can easily draw out by hand how I precrease the 2.1 with no pencil marks, but would it be OK to share it? I feel like it is more acceptable compared to the 3.5 since the 2.1 is the obsolete version.
