More progress:

My pictures on flickr don't seem to want to upload, except for the small size, so I'm just posting a link to my flickr
. Sorry for the inconvience.
Does anyone know, perchance, why the large sized photos won't upload? Is anyone else having this same problem?

well I decided that I will fold 2.1!
Now before you tell me I'm not good enough, I want to say,
I test folded every part of this model and the only thing I had trouble with was the transition units. shoot me i'm incompetent.
can someone help me with this part?

You're welcome! I'm glad that you found it helpful.
Having said that, if you haven't already started collapsing, a few tips for Ryu Jin 2.1
1. Begin with the bottom.
2. If you know that your paper can hold up the stress of the scales, do everything on the bottom but the scales, then do the top (all but the scales).
3. Get the head mostly collapsed after doing transition units, but before you do the scales (wait to do the scale/neck/head transition until after you do the scales).
4. After collapsing the head, go back down and do the bottom transition units, and then the bottom scales. After doing that, do the upper scales, then the neck. Finally, unfold the ends of the scales sections, make the join (when you do the join, they will, of course, get refolded) shape, and you're done!
Hope that helped 'ya out with any collapsing questions that you may have had....

Actually, when working on the top half, I found it easier to do the scales first, then fold the transition from neck to head, then work on the head. The side of the head comes from bunched layers, so it makes sense to me to bunch the layers on all sides of the head first.
