For a long time I am trying to solve CP of Joseph Wu's sus scrofa (wild boar). You can see my result:



It looks quite right, but it is not true. I have problem with hint legs. My legs are in different point of CP than Joe's legs . Now I am trying to colapse lines on Joe's CP in the right way, but I every time failed. If you study Joe's pictures carefully, you can see, that also front legs are not folded correctly. It is very lacerative for me. I would like to know fold Joe's sus scrofa correctly, i.e. in the same way as Joe. Now I see that it is impossible without help.

Do anyone know, how to fold it? (For instance Joe. )

I'm just trying to fold that model and was wondering if anyone knew a folding sequence for the bristles.

You can look in the new Lang's book Secrets of origami. In the chapter about scales of carp koi is the sentence how to make bristles. Scales of carp koi should be make by twisting, but wild boar's bristles looks like preliminary fold.

Maybe it will be usefull if I send diagram up to making legs. What do you mean about it?

Thx for the hint on the bristles, I was thinking about using the folding sequence for the "simple" Koi-scales before but didn't actually try it for some reason

Here's my first attempt at folding this model:


I know that I didn't collapse the legs right but I have the impression that the CP is somewhat incomplete/wrong in this part since I couldn't find a way to collapse using the shown creases, so I just created it how I felt it looked ok.

Also copy paper isn't the best for this model I think, I'll try to use some better paper next time.

About coming to Prague: It would be very nice to come and meet with some other Origamists, generally my weekends are free and Prague is a nice city to spend a weekend, so maybe you could contact me (or Anna) privately so we can fix some details somewhen

Yes, you are absolutely right. That CP is not complete (but Joseph Wu talks about "partial crease pattern"), it contains only main lines. I have many variants and ideas, I can send something to this forum (if someone else is interested in this problem) or we can discuss about it during our meeting in Prague. I will send you more informations later.
By the way, you are very good folder! You folded it very quickly and nice!

Here's my second attempt with 15cm x 15cm Kami. I did a colour change on the tail this time because I thought it looked nicer.


I think I'm gonna try foil next, now that I know where the mountain and valley folds are.

I really like it.

If somebody got some problems for the spikes on the head, it seems to be the exactly the same as the hairy man of nick robinson, diagrams here and here

Actually that's not totally true (at least not the way I folded it)
What you need are only the steps 7-13 of the hairy man diagrams.

Also note that in step 13 the nose of the boar will be in the top corner, the bristle pointing down. That means that in step 7 the nose is in the top left corner and the tail where the X is.

For those of you who want to know my way of folding the Sus scrofa, come to the Origami USA convention in New York at the end of this month. I will be teaching it there.

As Ondrej has correctly noted, the crease pattern is not complete. The problem is that the final folds go through the pleats, making for a lot of zigzag creases in the crease pattern. That's why I left those out.
