I am looking for good origami books... however, the amount of origami books in the local library is limited... So, I would like the names of authors that have nice books.

Well...
Robert Lang's books are excellent. They have complex models that are very satisfying to complete.
John Montroll also has some good books. His models are simple yet elegant.
There are two.
But like Ondrej said, what kind of models do you like?

You can probably find a bunch of Kasahara (Origami for the Connoisseur, Origami Omnibus, La Era Nueva, El Mundo Nuevo), Biddle (New Origami, Essential Origami), Harbin (Secrets of, Teach Yourself, etc.) Kenneway's Complete Book..., and Jeremy Shafer's Origami to Astonish and Amuse.

may be worth looking for Samuel Radlett books in the library, they are oldies but some interesting stuff in them.

Books by Fumiaki Kawahata is also good. Sadly, only in Japanese.

Japanese should pose too much of a problem, so long as the diagrams are good.

Actually, all the Kawahata books I found in the library were in Korean!

All books in the Nova Scotian libraries are either French or English. So there is no chance of me finding one of Kawahata's books

Libraries usually offer you the possibility to search the available books via keywords. So you should get all the books they have in your local library by searching for "Origami". It's a bit useless to tell you all kinds of nice authors only to hear that you can't get the books anyway....
You might want to check at your library if they offer an interlending system with other libraries, which would give you a broader range of available books and possibly more Origami books.

Umm... I've tried searching Origami... and there are lots of books, but they are all the books that show you how to make really simple things... sometimes I find a nice book (Brilliant Origami, Origami Zoo, Origami Omnibus) but I have found it's easier to just search the authors name

Okay what you need to do is ask 10 or so of your friends to wander into the library take out one origami book and request another that they do not have, the more people you can convince to do this the higher up you will come on their request list and more books will be bought.

(Well it works in the UK but it might be different stateside, I do this whenever I feel like trying out a new author but dont want to buy the book and can wait a month or so).

Hmm... that might work... but it would be hard to convince my friends to do this...
