Hei, i have just introducet myself in the "genaral" part...
So i was heading abaut wetfoldin, and i soh that a good model to start with was a frog,
David Derudas' "Ranoshi", i did it mu in the end my origami don't stand up like the picture's one, and i tryed to do in other ways but i coudn't make it, it usualy hepens with my models, they never stand up.
So if you could help me with both situations, the frog and the general stand up problem....
Thanks
And my constantly apologizes for the misswritin, I'm braziliam, remember...

ahh yes. These are quite confusing diagrams... I can't get past step 5-6 (I think I've folded something wrong). have you tried dry folding it?

I ended up trail blazing after the fourth step. I could not figure out the fifth step (the little triangle to the right specifically). I think it ended up pretty much the same though.....maybe I got it right, not sure though.

I'm pretty sure there's a mistake in the diagrams. If you just change the mountain fold that runs down the middle of little triangle to a valley, it works perfectly (from what I can tell) and gives you step 6.
I have a problem with them standing up nicely too but it usually just takes a bit of shaping for the front legs.

Im having a problem with the website.
http://www.derudas.com/origami/ranoshidiag.htm
It seems to be down. I was really hoping to see the steps better than the small line drawing that I've seen onthe internet with not enough explanation between steps 4,5 and 6.
Has anyone seen better diagram for this frog?
Thanks!
Dean

I have. While searching for better diagrams for the Ranoshi, I came across some photo diagrams for it. Once I find them again, ill edit them into my post.

I learnt to fold the ranoshi from the photodiagram, the "official" one is not very clear.
I don't remember where I found it, but I have a copy in my hard disk, so if you can't find the diagrams by yourself, I can send it to you, just email me.

Thanks! The problem is, I cant figure out what the steps 5,6,7 really are. I tried for a couple hours off an on to get to the next steps, but I just cant do it.
Do you have any photos that will help explain whats going on in those steps better?
If thats your email address, I'll email you and see what you have. Maybe it will help get me to the next step!
anyone know why the designers website is down?
Thanks!
Dean

Thanks!

Well, email me and I'll send the photodiagram when I'll be back at home. I have to look into my diagrams collection, but I'm sure that I have both: the official one and the photodiagram.
I don't know if it will help you, but I wasn't able to fold that either, until I found these photos, so I guess it will be helpful for anybody.

JVEGA- That was it! The files you sent really helped show me what I was missing in the line art diagram.
BTW, Here's where the original line drawings and I didn't mesh-
Step #4 has nothing to do with the shape in step #6, its just the way to crease the sheet as shown after opening in step #5. Step #5 is only showing one half of the sheet (the other half is to the left of the shown square, and is a mirror image)
The vertical center crease line in step #5 , from top to bottom and changing at the intersection with the horizontal creases and center point, goes MOUNTAIN, VALLEY, MOUNTAIN, VALLEY. I saw the whole vertical crease as one fold, not the 4 different ones.
Steps 6 and 7 are drawn wierd concerning the part that becomes the hind legs. These steps makes much more sense once you are there. The symbol below #7 is an eye to show you the point of view for #8 and #9
The whole project came together once I noted the M,V,M,V down the center of Step #5. And it's that squash that actually shows you the Derudas Ranoshi form.
Thanks for the help!
Dean
J- have you tried folding it yet? Did the photos help you out?

Re: Mountain Valley etc. ... referring to Step 5 only:
1. The entire model is folded from a 2:1 rectangle, and Step 5 shows the right side, only, with a repeat arrow shown at the top left corner.
2. You are effectively doing an accordion fold, or multiple reverse fold, or multiple open sink .... Shafer uses this approach in many of his creations.
3. So, going from outside to inside, the large 3 sided rectangle is a valley fold, the next smaller is a mountain fold, and the inside line on the bottom half is a valley fold.
4. So, to repeat Steelhead, if you look only at the single line in the middle of Step 5, it appears to be one valley fold, but it is Not ! This may have confused some folks. That middle line is divided into 4 segments:
The top segment is a Mountain fold, the next segment is a valley fold, the next is a Mountain fold, and the bottom segment is a valley fold. And to be redundant, just so I can confuse the people who think that they understand

...
The bottom half of the line is a valley fold, the top half of that line is divided in thirds, alternating Mountain, Valley, and Mountain for symmetry.
If you think of these as alternating open sinks, it may help construction.
Step 6 - 7 shows the Left side, with a repeat arrow indicating for the Left side. Fold the bottom flap forward for the back leg, and fold it back at 45 degrees (that description isn't very good). At the bottom of Step 7 that you inside reverse fold (open sink ?) to tuck the extra paper into the model.
I dry folded it a while ago, and it will not stand correctly, but I'm confident that a little wet-folding and shaping will give you a good model.
IMHO, the model is not difficult, but the steps aren't drawn well.
Here are some pictures I found on the Web:

I think that these are the photodiagrams:

....from Archive.org:

Please post your pictures, when finished.

The link above for the .zip file is the one that I got and it was very welcomed! The first photo in the series was all it took. Note that it's photographed from the bottom of the paper.
Heres some photos of my first (pink) and second (blue) folds of this design. Pink is with thin origami paper out of a 8 inch long rectangle, Blue is with coverstock paper with an 11 inch long rectangle.
The Pink one sits better due to the thinness of the paper, but I think what I've read online about wetfolding this design will ring true.
Thanks for all the help! I think this thread will be of great use to future folders of this design. And thanks to Derudas for publishing the design.
