I need your help with my first try in folding a model from a CP:

Maybe someone can teach me how to do the front section. I've managed the back to the neck but really don't know how to fold the head

Hmm... This is ideally not a good starting CP, I don't think I could do it... I reccomend you start with something else, and work your way up to this model.

any idea about a cp to start with?

My first CP was Go Guspath's Lion. I'd recommend starting with that. However, you might want to start with something different... Try Nicholas Terry's page full of CPs

My first one was Myajima's scythe wich I found on Eileen's origami site. It has a crease pattern guide for beginners and I found it really helpful.

My first crease pattern was Hideo Komatsu's Giraffe and it took me several days to figure out, but I learned a lot from it. I was then able to fold his lion and sheep as well.

In general, you should start with the landmark creases in the CP. Then fill in the smaller creases.

It looks streght forward, but I am not great at non-boxpleated CP yet.

I have to agree with you. Without boxpleating, I would be having a hard time folding from CPs. Probably a good idea to start with boxpleating, too
