Hello Everyone
I was wondering if any of you have any tips on folding
Lang's Bull moose http://www.langorigami.com I have been
able to do the 'origami part' and fold it but in terms of
artistic shaping and molding I am quite stuck. Does anyone
know how to keep the legs from splaying out to the sides?
And how to make it stand. I find the back legs are to thin
and collapse. Thanks ahead of time!

Hmm... I had the same problem when I tried this model. What I did to mine for the leg problem was to insert short metal wire inside the model to hold the body and legs together. If you try that, you'll have to put a wire for each leg.

Now for the standing part, mine stood all alone after putting the four wires into the model. I beleive this also depends on the paper you used for the model. Of course, if your model still doesn't stand after the first step, you can always insert longer wires that goes from hoof to hoof in order to make a rectangle. Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Foil backed paper would probably be best for this model. I know that Lang used kraft paper, but still... with foil backed paper, it would stand up properly.

Try using glue!!

You can also try shaping the moose's back to make it wider.

But remember, people like Lang and Kamiya use PVA (white glue) and MC (methyl-cellulose) very liberally.

I'd recommend MC most, because around here you can get around just calling it glue

Though I am surprised to know Lang and Satoshi use PVA glue....
I know Lang uses MC for insects but glue? lol! Anyway I guess that
by adding the glue to the legs it will add thickness and weight. I plan
on folding it from the lokta on Lang's site soon so wish me luck!

By the way Sunburst the wire idea is ingenious especially if I put the
model on a base of somesort!

I don't know if Lang uses PVA. I know that he uses MC after dry-folding the base. But yes, that's using glue!

And Kamiya I know uses PVA.

The no-glue rule is really emphasizing the fact that we do not glue parts together. Glue can be useful in making folds stay in place.
