I bought the Tanteidan #13 and I don't understand what I should do exactly on the step 58 to 61 (he said the beginning of the complex collapse and now I understand why ) Can you help me? Thanks

Can anyone help with this "complex collapse"?

On the first part of the collapse it seems that I had to sink the dark grey parts, but on the second diagram it's not sunk... or is it? Anyway, I kinda can get it flat but not close to how it's supposed to be flattened.

Well, I did this collapse once, in a class with Seth at a conference, but I don't remember the exact details of the collapse; I do however, remember that when you do it, it uses mainly already existing creases. It also feels really natural to do it, like the paper wants to be folded like that. I can't give you more specifics because I haven't folded it for a while, but just be gentle on the paperand look realy closely at the diagram, and you'll get it. It's sorta like making several rabbit ears. Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

I just did the collapse about a minute ago, it wasn't as hard as it looked. Before I do any reasonably complex model from a diagram, I read through the whole diagram three or four times and try to envision folding each step in my head. If I can imagine everything except one or two tricky steps, I'll be able to make a decent model. This collapse was one of those kind of steps that I had no idea what was going on just by looking at the diagrams, until I opened up the model a bit and starting doing it. The only advice I can give is to go right to looking at the picture for step 60, open the model up so the leg flaps are facing you, and then on either side of the talons you'll have to almost sink triangles next to them, and on either side at the top of the model you have to invert the top points of the sink in step 50 and sink triangles into the sides of the model by the creases shown in step 58. Do both sides at once, and once you see how the whole model folds in half horizontally, the rest should pretty much come together by itself. Hope that's helpful!

i know it's been awhile, but i just figured this step out.

essentially the diagrams are not very clear on this step.

the problem is, the way it appears, if you do a sink on the indicated area on step 58, the rest of the collapse will follow naturally. it will not. you must extend the valley fold from the bottom left corner of the darkened rhombus in step 58 to the horizontal in step 59 (there is no precrease that goes that way, i believe). then collapse the model to appear as it does in step 61.

i hope that helps. the rest of the model is not hard at all, but make sure you use some kind of foil/wet fold for final shaping.
