I have a copy of Origami for the Enthusiast by John Montroll.
The rabbit base (used by several models) has one step I just can't figure out from the diagram! It's step 6 on page 50 where you have to pinch the flaps and sink the bottoms.
If anyone has any advice on how to complete this step, I would appreciate it! Thanks

In that step you are performing a rabbit ear to the inner flap.
Make sure that you are using the right crease lines (mountain or valley)
When you make that fold, the flap should come toward you (the mountain crease which runs down the flap is why it come toward you) The mountain crease (the middle of the flap) should meet up with the raw edge of the flap on the top and bottom.
Hope that helps.
Just make all the indicated creases and collapse upward.
*Edit*
Here are some photos
All the Crease should be put together like
This
The first thing to do is open up the flap and Push the indicated portion

Fold it flat and crease it

Now pinch the flap, starting from the top.
