Hey everyone Happy New Year!

I am folding Manuel Sirgo's Phrynus from the crease pattern on his website. I have a base (the precreasing and collapsing was very straight foward) but I'm having trouble figuring out what flap is what appendage. Any help on shaping and details would be appreciated!

I've done it 1 month ago. that caused me some trouble too, but i solved that like I pulled those flaps a bit above from the middle, shown in the cp
So, i pulled those flaps to be flat, and then i formed those like on the picture.
And then i made the limbs.

i hope you understand it

hmmm. I don't think I understand what you're saying. My problem is the middle you're right. Can you post a picture?

i couldn't make the middle so straight like on the original picture, so i bent it in a M way

I'm trying to fold this model for my dad and collapsing the CP was easy enough, but I'd like to make sure I did it right because it appears to me that the claws are on the outside of the three pairs of back legs, and the image says they should be on the inside. Does anyone have a picture of the collapsed base and/or other angles of the body? Thanks in advance

Side note: I'll post a picture of my collapsed base when my mom returns my camera from work.

There were too many creases and the plausible solution was this, so i made the claws outside. I couldnt really extend the claws:S

But for some reason when I leave the claws on the outside the legs cannot expand outward to their natural positions and the model looks really awkward. Again, I apologize for not posting any pictures, but if anyone could show me a collapsed CP/base that would be really awesome.

I also made an attempt to fold that spider.
I didn't make it that far like you *g* I is my first attempt on a boxpleated model, and i have absolutely no idea how to collapse the thing
Well, i could wrap it all together and hope that something fits, but that wouldn't be my method of choice...

I suppose the long flaps become the antlers, the edges in the middle the insides of the claws. The feed are the other six flaps left.

Well, i hope someone can give a hint how to collapse that model or where to find help how to collapse boxpleated models. I know, Gerwin made a guide, but that guide just finishes where the interesting part starts...

Nice job! Still don't have access to a camera, but the easiest way I've found to collapse it is to turn the circled bit into a ridge, but that makes all sorts of awkward thick points and folds that aren't there.

Circled area is where the ridge is. Everything above that on the crease pattern is folded back and everything below the circled area folds in front, on mine. However, it leaves you with two extra points (indicated by the dashed lines) and other valleys that aren't indicated on the crease pattern. Furthermore, making it a ridge means eliminating one of the long horizontal valley folds, and it concentrates points in the claw on a very unorthodox, weird angle. Again, really sorry for not having actual pictures, hopefully I will soon.

I've got this model lying for some weeks now in my desk, and i really want to complete it since it is nice paper that i don't want to waste.

Has anyone of the more experienced cp-collapsing-boxpleating folders an idea how to collapse that model?

Any hints, andrey or artur?

This always happens to me. I get so close to finishing it and I always get stuck! I really do not want this to go in the incomplete box (along with my fiddler crab base). I just need a little help collapsing the base. I need a picture. My model looks just like Max's picture.

I am studying for my final exam right now, so the spider will have to stay in the cupboard until august
