hi,

i really want to make an elephant, and when i went looking for a nice model i came across this one: http://www.h5.dion.ne.jp/~origami/e/elephant.html
it's the best i have ever seen, an with cp!
but there is a part i don't understand, and as far as i understand, it isn't flatfoldable (maekawa's theorem). it is the part with the two small kites right under the middle.

any help is appreciated.

you are right... it must be an error in the CP. There is no way this part of the structure can be folded flat. I tried each an every configuration, first out of Maekawa's theorem and then simply by folding the CP.

BTW: it is by far my favorite elephant... mine is Montroll's from Origami Inside Out...

Many of Miyajima's CP's are not flat foldable, so yeah, take ther base as far as you can even though it does not lie there flat and then work on the details, which will be many since this is Miyajima we are talking about here.

i haven't folded anything of Miyajima before, so i dont know much about alot of details of something. i managed to make it flat by adding one or 2 creases, but i am not sure if i did it right.

maybe i should try and find another model, since with the few cp's i have attemted the biggest trouble was getting from the base to something satisfactory. like kamiya's sleipnir, the cp on his website wasn't that complex but i haven't got the slightest idea how to make something out of it. i should practice on this kind of stuff.
