In "Origami Bugs and Beasts" by Manuel Alvarez I am having trouble with step 8 of the Jellyfish which is the start of other models as well. It looks straightforward but I must be missing something. Any help?

I can't really help explain this unwrap, but I can help others know what you're talking about...

This is Manuel Sirgo's Jellyfish, from the book Papiroinsectos. Diagrams are also available on the AEP site: http://www.pajarita.org-->diagramas-->nacionales-->page3

It's been republished in English, under the name Bugs and Beasts.

Also, I believe Spanish people usually have two last names(first from the father, second from the mother), and generally go by the first, e.g. Manuel Sirgo Alvarez is Manuel Sirgo, Fernando Gilgado Gomez is Fernando Gilgado.

I didn't get it either at first but I found a more simple way. Basically just wrap the first single layer behind the flap around (you sorta have to unfold it a bit) so that it turns colored like in the diagram. Then take the triangular flap hidden underneath and open sink it up and the square from step 10 will form naturally.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Not much I can do for you. I usually just play around with the paper until I get it.

This maneuver has been asked about in three recent posts already, all in different models. Here is a video depicting this common maneuver.

If this is the wrong step let me know, I could have the wrong diagram.
Best of luck, Raptorex
