Help on Peter Engel's reindeer

I have a big problem with steps 31 - 32 of the reindeer from "Origami from Angelfish to Zen". It is three-dimensional rabbit's ear, which sounds pretty easy. But after an hour or so I still don't know how to make this fold. I have googled for additional instructions and found hints here:
http://underground.zork.net/modelerrata ... Reindeer_2
Unfortunately there is nothing about distributing layers during making the rabbit's ear.
I can fold rabbit's ears on both sides of the model, but reversed, i.e. with some of folds valley, not mountain. But I cannot manage to fold all 3 creases from the corners of the triangle to make them mountain.
Generally: how to make these steps? Do you know any photos, drawings, hints? I would be grateful if you could help me.

the first time i folded that i kind of crumpled it down, i'm not good at explaining how to do origami, but i think this might help: make the creases that the diagrams shows, then push down on the top of it and hopefully it will fall into place

Thank you for the answer :) I have tried out your method, but due to thin paper it haven't work. It seems that I have to find exact way and fold it precisely, it cannot arrange by itself.

Finally, I did it.

To be honest, I still have no idea where exactly each flap should go and where each crease should be made - too many attempts, too many creases, too soft paper. But - surprisingly - all the effect of the unsuccesfull attempts are hidden inside the model and the reindeer looks great. It's time for the next model :)
