I've been practising this nice rose that's so elegantly folded by John McKeever:

My issue is with the "swivel" step that you have to do. In the diagrams from "Origami Dream World: Flowers and Animals" it's on page 58 and is step 3-7.
John did show me this at one of the conventions, but I never really understood this properly. (it also doesn't help the steps are in Japanese...)

When I fold this flower, I find the outer petals are not locked in properly and I get the feeling that this step may have something to do with it.

Any chance of some help?

This is relatively easy to fold. I will look into the book and try to help you. But that book have my brother and he is ill just now.

i just folded this rose.

the difficulty, i think, is that, compared to the other kawasaki roses, this one is more "free form." steps 3-7 are actually a series of squash folds and pleat rearrangements. (careful with your language, when you say "swivel" i think most ppl intuit that you mean the classic "twist" step which is used to achieve the center).

just accept that the landmarks are somewhart arbitrary, and the final product does not "lock" the way the other kawasaki roses do. btw, my rose does not look like your friends, but i imagine that one was practiced more, and the way you fold your very first petal in step 1 will alter the rose significantly.

I wish that would be enough for me :S

Is there anyone else who's got tips, or shall I move to get that page of the book translated...
