The Tanteidan Convention Book 12 contains diagrams for Satoshi Kamiya's Cyclommatus metalifer and not for Brian Chan's...

Stylistically the one by Brian Chan is far more elegant
(of course that's subjective)

i don't know how brian chan, robert lang and satoshi kamiya (and may other origami masters) make the legs on their models so perfect and thin. it seems impossible to make legs so thin considering the paper that they were made from has been doubled over and over again.
Take for example brian chan's mayfly. Do you suppose he secretly uses cuts without telling anyone?

Well, I think part of it is tht they have connections to places that give them really good paper for whatever occasion. If they need thin legs, they'll get incredible thin paper. Another thing is that they usually get bigger paper, which makes a larger length:detph ratio, so relative to the size of the model, the layers will be thinner making skinnier legs. And I'm pretty sure they have some other method of keeping those folds tight, whether it be with water and clampr or whatnot. But I would never assume they use cuts.
