yeah i need help. i feel like a noob about this.

KUNAI gerwin sturm after step 14

i need help. slotsa photos per step would work i cannot watch vids

just making the kunai now, taking pics as i go, i'll post them later, do you just want from step 14 on?

that looks awsome! if i remember correctly he suggested 6 in paper right? and thanks for the encouargement. i guess its not all that noobish after all. maybe it was the fact i got stuck on all of those within an hour of each other oh well. hopefully those pics will get up soon. i cant remember where i got the guspath go from but if you google it youd probably find it.

Alright, Sorry it took a bit long but i just had the time to edit the photos. sorry if its gonna be a BIG post but you did ask for broken down steps right? :LOL:

The Blue lines are valley folds and the red Mountain Folds. The thin lines are creases made in previous steps...

My apologies if the model doesnt look all that great. i used bond paper so it got kinda thick at the end...

Step 14:

Fold the middle diamond in half to one side.



Step 15:

Fold the side to the center... note the reference points that touch the center.



It ends up looking like this



Step 16 and 17:

Unfold the side so its open again and pull out the top part of the model (keep the creases soft so you can adjust it afterwards)



Steps in progress... Please note that you folded the side back in to touch the center and the top part is pinched slowly



The finished step looks like this. Please note the reference point of where the creases touch...



Steps 18 to 19:

Unfold the middle diamond flap and move it to the other side and repeat steps 14 - 18 on the other side



It will end up looking like this...



Step 20 - 21:

Turn the model over and fold the hexagon upwards. Please note that the valley fold connects 2 of the corners...



Move in progress... The middle part of the model adjusts and 'tightens' to form 2 triangles in the middle



This is how it looks like after you finish the move



Step 22:

Fold the handle sides to the center



Step 23:

And again...



the model will look llike this after



Step 24:

Fold the handle down to almost in half and unfold. Please note the reference points... My apologies for the messed up pic. i kinda messed up the reference points and had to re edit the photo... sigh.




Step 25 and 26:

Fold the little triangular part down please note that the valley fold links the two corners



This is how it looks like after steps are finished...



Step 27:

Rabbit ear the top part of the model. Please note that the 'base' of the rabbit ear 'rests' on the crease you made in step 25...



Step 28:

It ends up looking like this... OPEN sink the rabbit ear in half...




Step 29:

Make several crimps to form a ring at the end of the handle...



it ends up looking like this... er... kinda... :p



Rest of the steps:

The rest of the steps are all shaping folds... this is how my kunai looks like. again. my apologies for the way the final model looks like... the paper wasnt very cooperative... :LOL:

ok, so I see that floopate has already subitted pics for the kunai, but I offer a slightly different solution to steps 16-18 that more closely follows the diagrams

beginning with step 16


unfold the flap


open the side out


refold the flap while keeping the top end open, forming a loose mountain fold as you go


keep pushing the mountain fold until it meets the centre crease


squash it all flat and you have step 18.
repeat in the other side and you're well on your way to having a completed Kunai

What paper is that? is that foil paper? did you make that yourself or buy it? i used to have lots of something that looks like that. we call it 'palara' here or something like that (we use it to make kites and 'parol's' star type model things with a wooden frame covered in paper or cellophane with lights in them for christmas, oh and wrapping 'watusi' lilttle fire cracker type things for new years that kids here love to play with).

Thanks for showing an alternative, i should try that soon, when i get nice black paper so the final model can look like the kunai's used in naruto.

The Paper is foil backed paper, I got a collection of John Montroll books with a pack of really nice duo-paper in it that had some nicely coloured foils in it, so I decided to save the foils for special occasions because I've never seen foil backed paper that nice, pre-cut into squares in any art or craft shops

'parol's' star type model thing sounds cool - is there any instructions online that you could send me a link to?

Its all good, i totally understand where you were coming from. no worries about that at all okay? i didnt even think that you were trying to undermine anything at all.. seriously. its all good...

parol's are made through first making 2 sets of star shapes through bamboo or some other flexible wood then tying the ends together then putting a piece of wood in between them to make the shape 3d. lights are then added inside then the paper or colored cellophane is put on top. Usually the lights are even programmed to blink in a certain sequence inside a parol.

It isnt folded if thats what you were thinking, sorry for the confusion... its something very common here in the philippines and in some places there are a few stalls full of parols that the place is even brighter and outshine the stars in the sky.

That was a pretty smart move by the way. Our palara here isnt exactly foiled back paper... its a VERY thin foil glued to the paper so it does help but not much. or if its decent foil its attached to wax paper which doesnt stick to the foil if multiple creases crosses one section, but it is great for practice though.

floopate: steps 20-21 photos two and three. im still confused.

steps 20 - 21 of the kunai? oh... all you have to do is make sure the valley fold is at the right area (i.e touching the two corners). And the two parts that i show you in the photo under the handle need to be adjusted... because you technically 'pull' the handle upwards as much as it can go, adjusting the creases as you move the handle.

I'll try to get the other models to you right now, but was transferred to the night shift this week and still havent found time to make them. sorry!
