Peter Engel - Knight on Horseback

Hi everybody,

so this is another Engel problem in this forum ...

I've problems with the 15th and 16th step of his "Knight on Horseback" which can be found in "From Angelfish to Zen".

What is meant with the front shaded layer?
And how shall I then fold it together again? I can't even imagine what the picture actually shows...

I'm not sure how to describe this, other than to say this is like making a stretched bird base, but doing two at once.

This is a complex model-- given the questions that you have been asking, perhaps you should make something simpler first?

There are a lot of diagrams to choose from, most of them easier than Engel's Knight on Horseback:

Your proposal was a good one - so I chose the "Monk with a stick" and will give him a Katana - this will also serve the purpose ...

I have folded the knight on horseback many times, but I don't have the book in front of me right now. the only advice that I can give is that this is a color-change model, and that with some practice, you can make very lifelike models (I would know...) anyway, if you aer looking for another person-on-horseback model, I would recommend David Brill's horseback rider (diagrams in: "brilliant Origami" )(he has two different horseback models, one of them is another knight on horseback, only it is out of two different sheets of paper, the other model is a horseback rider, out of a two-by-one rectangle)
