Peter Engel - Alligator

Hello everybody,
I know it's becoming boring - but Peter Engel again...now at his "Alligator". Step 11 seems either to be a really hard one or I just don't get the point as something is missing...
The problem is that I don't know how to crease the underlying layer exactly. The two triangles which can be recognized in 12 won't ever come out at my model this way...
Does anybody have a good description or maybe even a photography of the procedure?
Thanks so far,
Bastian

Step 11 is kind of tricky. Basically, steps 11 and 12 have you make a bird base, within the rest of the model. Keep in mind that you're following the creases that are already there, not making new ones; you open the flap, and push the middle point up, while flattening along the creases made in 7-9.

What you did with the part of the paper involved in step 11 looks fine for me. I think your mistake is from a previous step and thatis why the front of the model (the one involved in step 11) looks ok but not so the rest of the model.
My advice is unfold the model and make sure you do the previous steps correctly. I am suspicious of step 10.

Hi Mr. Stone,
your suspicion was totally right - that's really impressive!
Sometimes it's better to read the instructions precisely, I guess

- my mistake was to just make a valley fold and not to sink the flaps in step 10...
Thank you very much!

I am very glad I was able to help. Now make your best effort in completing the model and if you get in trouble just ask again. Also, people would like to see the results of your folding, so don't be shy.
That Engel book was my first origami book and I have great memories from it.
