Here are some pictures and the crease pattern of my favorite origami model of all time:

I was wondering if anyone here has successfully folded it or knows any place where I can find either a diagram or video on folding this model. The crease pattern doesn't look too difficult, but then again it is folded with humidified paper and I've never done that before so I don't know how much harder it is going to be than it looks. Anyway, if anyone can help me fold this model I would EXTREMELY appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Oh no! I have to pay for it? Well, I guess it might be worth it. All the designs in that book are pretty awesome. I doubt I'll be able to do any though. But, it's worth a try, and $15.56...I hope. Has anyone ever folded this model, or any other in this book? Any feedback?

Go to a Barnes and Noble or Border's and take a look at the book. I'm pretty sure I've seen it at Border's before. That way you can decide if you like his folding methods.

Or I could just go to the store, find the book, take a picture of the diagram, and leave lol I'll probably end up buying the book from amazon.

Wow, would it really? I'm definitely going to buy the book, but what if I just look through the book in the store and happen to memorize it? Anyway, its discounted on Amazon so I'm going to buy it from there.

Oh no! But I need that! Anyway I started to learn how to fold Montroll's narwhal. I completed one semi-successfully. I'm just having trouble with Step 19. There are two folds that take place at the head of the narwhal model, and it just says to reverse-fold. Do I make a reverse fold on both of those folds, or just one of them, or what? I tried reverse folding both of them, but then I had a very hard time reverse folding the horn up in the next step and I just wanted to be sure I'm doing it right. Here's the diagram:

Make it exactly as shown, mountain fold the front flap and valley fold the flap behind. They are linked together, therefore he calls it a reverse fold, because this is the result.

So I mountain fold the front of the horn, and valley fold the back, and reverse fold the "head" or the model?

Thanks. I actually like his design a lot better than Montroll's. It's easier to do too. But I still like Alvarez's the best and I am going to buy the book for his designs.

Re: Reverse fold - re-read what Origami_8 said... "two" folds, not three....

1. Pre-crease both folds. Unfold.
2. Try to sharpen the folds a bit, to get the Mountain fold on top and the Valley fold on bottom as indicated.... (in a pre-crease mode, if needed)
3. Simultaneously Collapse both folds - Mountain and Valley - and the result of both folds together is the Reverse-fold.
4. Do the same on the other side.

Note: if it helps to visualize it, you are kinda doing an open sink on each side. If it is confusing, forget that I wrote that.

BTW, after you've folded a few of these narwhal, I believe that you'll find Montroll's directions to be clearer and simpler than what I wrote.

Thanks I understand now. But I still really want to make the one by Alvarez. In fact, his narwhal and the one that Sebyfrog showed me look very similar. But for some reason Alvarez's looks a lot more realistic and the horn seems to be larger in proportion to its body than the other ones I have seen. It looks as though one of the only differences is that Alvarez's is wet-folded. Is this true, or is there more that makes it different?
