Gerwin Sturm - Griever

The Griever piece looks real daunting, so I'm folding it from CP instead of diagrams.
EDIT: Griever, by Gerwin Strum, diagrams at OrigamiAustria
When it comes to CP, I never ever seem to find the landmark. Help?

Lets resume, you told us you're going to fold a Griever model without any indication who's model it is and where to find the diagram and CP. You told us your going to fold it from CP and now you don't even know where to begin. What about this, look into the diagrams, I'm sure all the needed reference points will be explained there with a nice folding sequence.

Yep, Anna's tip is the easiest way to make the model.
in fact, finding the reference would be really difficult without it, since this model was made with TreeMaker (Or was it? :? )

Topsu, I don't think Gerwin uses treemaker. This looks like it was designed by hand to me... Most creators don't use treemaker, it's very difficult to make a good model using it.

Legionzilla, I suppose if you wanted to work through the math you could, theoretically, find the reference point in this case... but it's really not worth it, because 1) there are diagrams and 2) this model uses a big border graft, the proportions could be changed without affecting the model's foldability. So you wouldn't know if you were right or not.

And now that I look, there isn't a CP for the head section anyway. Seriously, just use the diagrams.

Actually I have used treemaker in the beginning of the design process to give me an idea how the flaps might be distributed. Treemaker gave me this (rather unusable) CP:

I then went on to rearrange everything to give me straight lines and nice angles and add the graft.

The reference point for the graft is where it is because I wanted the pleats on the graft be the same width as the pleats of the rest of the model, so some calculation and the use of reference finder gave the folding sequence for finding this reference.

Looking back the same width of pleats isn't all that necessary so approximating the graft-reference point with an easier folding sequence (or just with a good guess) shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the advice! I'll use the diagrams( though folding from CP is easier for most pieces). What is the reccomended paper size?

Hmmm... I think last time I folded it was from something like a 40 cm square...

Ok, looks like I'm visiting the paper shop today :D .

Oh really? In my experience, folding from CP is much MUCH harder than from diagrams. The only exception to this rule is boxpleated-only models, and even then it's about the same, not easier.

Unless you know some secret methods for folding CPs quickly...

The problem is that whenever I fold from diagrams, there's always a teeny weeny mistake that makes the model go completly awry, CP reduces the chance of that happening.
And Griever looks like a box-pleated model.

Well it's not a boxpleated model, which is why this whole topic exists! It just has a lot of sinks to thin flaps.
