I've been trying to do different patterns, accomplishing the penguin pattern on Eileen's guide, got to the base on Lang's Assyrian Bull, and failing the 12 headed hydra and spinflipper.com and warp crane #2 from the guide. I still haven't tried the dobsonfly, but any really easy beginner ones.

Thats a good start. My first starter CP was Brian Chan's dobsonfly, which was very easy, even tho my result wasnt too great. Then i tried folding Kamiya's phoenix 3.5 with the help of some photodiagrams and i managed to do it. You just get better from practice i suppose.

The information in the Crease Pattern FAQ is the best place to start learning.

yeah, I looked at the faq, I guess I might at well try the dobsonfly then. thanks for the help

I have just started CP's myself, about to attempt Eileen Tan's norse warrior, did lots of reading so hopefully it will help

Hi, I have just started folding from CP. These are some of the CPs I have kind of collapsed in a single attempt:

Joisel´s Dwarf and Self-made man. The difficulty is in shaping the face.
Gen Hagiwara's giraffe.
Roman Diaz' cat (from a rectangle).
Tom Defoirdt pig and Jesus of Rio. Really easy ones.

You should be able to find all CPs as they are free.

well, i tried the dobsonfly; got to the base of it, and couldn't figure out how to get the details in. I'll probably try his pig, because that seems pretty simple, but if someone wants to help with the dobsonfly details, i just cant figure out how to shape the horns, i think i know how to get the back end, and i cant figure out how to make the wings and legs

that topic helped me out a lot and got me to the finished base on the sixth picture, cut i cant seem to get the part where he first has the rectangles for the wings out and the horns pretty much done

EDIT: well, as a consolation i was at least able to create the frog from eileens page

I'm also a complete beginner with CP's, but I found this model easy enough to fold. It probably won't help you get better at finding reference points or determining crease orientation (it's all marked), but it does hold paperclips very nicely

Talking about CPs, Hideo Komatsu seem to have a few easy ones on his site, like the penguin, the fox and the horned owl. I haven't tried any yet, but they DO seem like very easy CPs.
