Joseph Wu has posted an excellent 36 minute video showing how to fold his 3D Blue Whale. His instructions are clear, careful, and complete - and easy to follow along in near real time.

In addition, I learned a few interesting 3D design techniques, as well as some different folding techniques.

Thanks goes to Joseph for taking the time and effort to share this video.

And for those who complain that Joseph doesn't produce enough instructions, let me point out that he is currently generating quality videos at the rate of better than one per week this year

Excellent find, HankSimon! While I haven't folded the model yet, I must say that the instructions seem very clear indeed. Another positive thing is that he doesn't take a zillion years to clarify every single step; it's not aimed at beginner-origamists.

Now, to find some good white-blue paper...

I folded this with kami yesterday-it's a really neat design! The lock at the top is pretty shaky, though-I MCed it shut.

Handmade paper?

Yes, it's sold under mulberry paper but it is not wispy and has other stuff in (as you can see, can someone verify what paper this is?) backcoated to white tissue paper.

Did you backcoat it yourself or did it come that way? It looks quite similar to the "two-layer paper" I used for Towelie: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oriholic/4106888293/

I believe that paper is kozo with banana inclusions. It's pretty but has two downsides: it is very soft and creases/corners fray easily, and the inclusions can sometimes be large or thick, and usually end up being right on a crease line!

I backcoated it myself, the tissue paper isn't that good and the colour shows through it...but that doesn't matter that much.

That's a really cool whale design... the creases beneath the head add a lot of detail. Hopefully I'll get a chance to fold it soon!
