I have very little experience with cp's. The only one I have ever done successfully was the iron man mask.

The only gargoyle that looks decent that I can find is Jason Ku's Gargoyle located here. He only has a CP (man I really hate CP's, hard on us ADHD guys, gimme some diagrams any day and I can focus on them long enough to fold them).

Anyone have any tips on starting this? Has anyone successfully folded it?

For starters, find the references. It looks like this is on a grid, so count the number of pleats from one side to the other and fold a grid; then put in the creases and try to make it work.
