Hi everyone.

So happy to have found this site. I am an origami flower freak and have made most out there. I came upon a website, see link below...they feature a rose I have not made. Its the swirl rose. I made the standrad rose on the site, but like the looks of swirl. Any help one can offer would be greatly appreciated

Looks like the classic Kawasaki-Rose with this variation.

Did you read the FAQ? Especially that bit on folding the Kawasaki rose? That might come in handy...

Hi there. yeh, I checked out the rose facts. I am trying to figure out where to stop on the dan of toasters diagrams and start on daniel ll.'s version in the link above. I just cant seem to match the photos with any of the steps from toasters site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for reading my post.

Note that the rose shown in DofT's site already has a modification which may not be compatible with Dan L's rose.

These mods are in steps 14-16 DofT's diagrams, so for the original Kawasaki rose, skip these (ie when finishing step 13, go straight to step 17). Dan L's instructions pick up around steps 17-18.

ok, so I got to step 17...18. The photos and my model look somewhat similar, however I think everything is reversed...things that need to be on the right are on the left etc. Is this true, or am I going crazy from trying to make this so many times,lol. Ok, once again thank you to all that having been taking the time to help me through this.

It depends on how you did the twist fold step. This can be done either in the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, leading to two different chiralities of the model.

OH MY GOSH EVERYONE....after many crumpled pieces of paper and a few headaches, I got it!!! Thank you all for the help.

Now I am curious how they got the center of the rose so tight?

Congratulations on completing the rose!

Getting the centre spiral tight now depends on the paper and folding technique. Normal copy paper and kami paper tends to be springy, so it'll try and open up. Foil paper will hold its shape better so you can get a tighter spiral, but it's fragile so other parts tend to get mushed easily. From the looks of it, the swirl rose shown on the somewhat dodgy bloom4ever site appears to be made from foil, or a foil/tissue sandwich.

Also, one of the best, if somewhat tedious, methods for good fold retention is wetfolding - this technique is described in many places, and Gilad Aharoni has written one of the best guides to this technique:

It takes a lot of practice and experience to get something wetfolded right, but the results are simply amazing.

i just saw the variation of the rose and i looks exceptional but i cant seem to find where the origainal rose changes into the variation of the rose im lookng at the diagram now please help. thx

sorry for being a necromancer... but i am not entirely sure how to get a a tight twist. just by "eyeballing" it, i would guess i would continue to twist the internal point clockwise (imagining that i was looking at the rose from top down)... but i try that and it just stresses the paper. i guess i should also say that i'm using plain kami... am i doomed to failure unless i use foil or wet fold?

My recommendation is to use copy paper. The reason being it is thicker and holds shape better in my opinion. Make sure when doing the grid to do the inner lines with really sharp crease that way when you do the twist the middle will hold tighter and appear like a box and then you can use a pen or pencil at the end to pull the paper out to the spiral this way you can vary how far you pull it out and that will change how tight it appears. I will post some pictures on what i am talking about later.

This can be achieved simply by placing a finger in the middle while popping up the triangles. Another thing to try is maybe reducing the grid from 4x4 to maybe 8x8 but then you would have to move some objects around. But it would allow the petals more length and possibly be able to twist them tighter. Its something i will have to try and i will let you know if i have any success. I'm in process of folding so many models right now .....
