Hello,

Like a lot of people, I'm working through Lang's book. I just finished a rough version of his song bird and would like to make another which is a lot nicer. There are two legs, each with a set of claws. On one leg, the claws aren't great and on the second they are much better (practice makes perfect, right?) However, both are "bulky," and I know I'm making a mistake.

On step 39 Lang asks us to pull the paper to make gussets...I did some searches on the internet and found out this is a sewing word and I have a sense that the paper will be folded in a certain way but I'm not sure how that is supposed to look...it would seem a critical fold because I did not form the gussets and the finished claws, as mentioned above, are much more "bulky"...not nice and clean. For my first attempt I used kraft paper, so this could be a factor in the bulky-looking claws.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on in step 39? I'm not feeling like a gusset kinda guy right now.

also, try searching this topic. i believe anna made a video about some of the more difficult parts of this model at some point. it might show you how to do the part in question.
