Robert J. Lang - Bull Moose

Guess what everybody! I made Robert Lang's Bull Moose! It's so frikin awesome! I just need to make a stand for it, because it can't stand on it's own ... but anyway, if you have Origami Design Secrets you should make the moose, because it's so awsome! I will post pictures of it some time this weekend maybe.

I also looked several over the moose pages in langs book...but i haven't had the currage and patience yet *g*
was it hard to fold and took a lot of time?

because of all the precreasing, as long as you follow the precreasing, you will be fine. Robert Lang almost always has precreasing for his complex models. You can see by the translucency in the paper that Lang uses a very thin piece of paper.

grats on making the moose! takes me at least 5 hours to fold it. first time was from wrapping paper.. very dissapointing outcome ;p

The moose is a great one-I think I folded it from notebook paper
, but it still turned out okay! The design looks great (sadly, mine won't stay closed and it looks like it got run over by something), and I will vouch that it takes a very long time to fold-the precreasing takes a long time-it is box pleated after all.

Haha.
I used notebook paper for that as well. After doing all those pre-creases, the lines on the notebook paper started obscuring the pleat folds for the moose.
I eventually had to place temporary pencil marks on the paper just to indicate where the next fold will be done. Hehehe

I'm glad to see that so many of you have succesfully folded the bull moose. You must be very talented folders. I'm definitely not a begginner, but I am having trouble with one of the folds. In step 35, we're told to just stretch a bit more paper to the left and close up the model. Well, I can close up th model just fine, but the flap that we see in step 36 always ends up being at the top of the triangular parts, two spaces above where it should be. It's that I don't understand the folds that he draws in step 35 . Has anyone had this problem before or could you give me suggestions? I'f folded it 4 times and could not for the life of me get that flap in the right lace.

Could you maybe specify a little bit more what exactly makes you problems on these two steps because I don't really get what your problem is. Step 57 is simply a crimp and step 58 is an open sink.

I folded a moose a few months back out of tissue foil
I strongly recommend using tissue foil; it will keep the model closed (my first one would spread apart at the legs, and look terrible.. ..it wasn't out of tissue foil). I'l try to get some pictures up on my flickr in a while, after I have some spare time to take pictures.... ....and find the darn model
. If you read this post and have a few spare hours (and the diagrams) I strongly recommend attempting to fold this. It is a great model, and is fun to fold.
