Here's the problem. Whenever I encounter a bird base in the middle of a CP I know I'm going to have a headache with it. If you try to straightforwardly collapse one of these guys you'll soon notice the process requires some forcing of the paper in order to get it done. It usually leaves a weak, wrinkly result behind.
I'm simply asking for a solution to folding this cleanly as I can't come up with my own. Thanks in advance.
Collapse it as a waterbomb, fold a rabbit-ear, and unsink the layers (1 open followed by 2 closed). Robert Lang uses this pretty heavily in his designs, and I've even used it a few times.
