Venetian Mask

Post by Whisteul »

Hello,

I'm looking after a diagram for a Venetian mask such as this one, with a long nose:

Thank you :)

I'm pretty new to this hobby, so this model may be completely over my head. Not sure. I'm trying it out, though.

I have some confusion at step 6. I'm not really clear on what to unfold. Step 5 looks to me like a simultaneous mountain fold of the model and reverse fold of the top flap. I'm left with something that looks just like step 6. But I'm not left with anything that easily unfolds. I can open the model a bit and reverse all the folds that went into step 5 (essentially sinking the lower layer of paper down while keeping the upper layer where it is) and be left with something that looks just like step seven, but my closed seam is on the bottom and my open seam is on the top of the right extension. Step seven seems to be a reverse fold, so I'd need the closed and open seams reversed. I've been back through the first few steps a number of times and everything jives with the diagrams, so any insight would be helpful.

And there it is: The magic of ask a question about something that's had you stumped for longer than you care to mention and then in the next ten minutes stumble onto the answer.

Turns out only some of the folds on some of the layers need to be reversed, not all of the folds on all of the layers or some of the folds on all of the layers. I've got it all sorted out. Back to your regularly scheduled browsing.

This topic is a bit old, but has amused me. Venetian mask is my favorite too and I am currently trying to make one. It's always amuse me how people make things with just a piece of paper. I am learning Origami as we speak. I am learning from Making Origami Masks by Michael LaFosse. It's a nice book to make masks. That includes the fabulous venetian mask.

Looking at the mask posted by Whisteul, I thought it would be nice to make a venetian mask all by myself. I wanted to do it with tissue foil. I googled a lot about it. I found a few helpful article, but the overall process is still complicated for me.
Have anyone done this before. It would be very helpful, if you can show me how to do it. Anything would be very helpful.
Thanks advance.
