Hello,
I want to give my nephew origami insects and their kin as a birthday gift, along with a completed kabuto mushi, since he very much into insects, but he's only just started with origami and pretty young.
Is there a book out there with some east beginning models, and some insects in the intermediate section i could give him in conjunction, like as a step-up book?
need a book recommendation: intro to origami insects

you can try getting it from amazon.jp, but yamada katsuhisa has a origami bug book. his designs are usually simple.
if you look on amazon, there are lots of origami bug kits. most of them should also be simple.
lastly, as an introduction to complex origami insects, i highly recommend john montroll books, particularly "animal origami for the enthusiast," and "origami for the enthusiast." both of these have "complex" insects which are generated from blintz bases, and a good way of breaking yourself in. both are also dirt chep ($10.00 a piece). he also has a book dedicated to bugs and birds. i haven't folded from it, but i imagine it to be straightforward.
