Origami tea cup

Post by Sara »

Hi All,

I'm trying to find a nice origami tea cup, but unfortunately the database doesn't seem to be working at all anymore. :(

Any ideas on whether there are some nice tea cups? I even tried to make my own, my first try at designing something myself:

As to be expected from a first try, it's very crude, and not at all as elegant as I'd like. I folded it from a 2:1 sheet of paper. One square forms the handle (box-pleating), and the other square forms the cup (with an octagon base).

So:
1. Do you know any nice tea cup designs?
2. Do you have recommendations on how I could improve my cup? I'm not sure box-pleating the handle is the way to go, and I don't like that I have to fold in the rim of the cup to make it level.

Thanks,

-- Sara

Yup, I would also recommend Momotani's book for this matter.

Here the coffee/tea cup + saucer folded by myself quite a while ago:

So long and keep folding ^_^

Sy Chen designed a wonderful tea pot and cup. It is diagrammed in the 2003 Origami USA collection.

The database seems to be working for me. There are a lot of teapots and four teacups there.
