Hi,
I wanted to give a wedding present of cash folded up into some modular origami but can't find any modular folds that start with money sized paper. Does any one know where I can find some diagrams for this sort of thing? I'm looking to use 25-50 bills per unit.
Thanks!

You might wish to contact the Dollar Artist.

Er, there are lots of dollar artists out there. And he's not exactly the best of them, IMHO; Won Park is better.

There is a flower by Robert Lang that uses 4 bills. I checked but it says diagrams are not available but I remember having seen them somewhere. Check for other modulars:

As this site shows, there is a FIT, using 30 dollars.

If that is too hard, try several of the $ stars using 5 bills each.
How about a $ crane mobile, and as money is needed, they can cut them off?
This is similar to a Japanese custom of a sword made of money, and money on hanging cords hanging from the sword. It was given as a wedding gift, and the money to be cut off and spend, as needed.

There are several modular Polyhedra that can be adapted to be folded from any kind of rectangle like for example Mio Tsugawa's Sham (
folded this one for my mom's wedding with 5€ bills) or some of the xyz-Polyhedra (f.e.
UVWXYZ
Rectangles) that can be found on Meenakshi Mukerji's homepage:

Variations of curler units are also a possibility.

Some alternatives to a modular design:
Fold many lucky stars, the diagrams for Sy Chen's design are in OUSA 2005 which you can order through the OUSA website.
Fold a $ bill square, then fold a traditional crane. Fold many cranes. These kind of folds are historically associated with bringing good fortune so it's a thoughtful way to present your gift.
On the other hand, a modular polyhedra for them to disconnect and unfold feels more like presenting them with a puzzle.

What a cool idea! I'm going to use it for some birthday gifts!
As for a money modular...how about Umulus Rectangulum (Thoki Yenn)? I made one years ago out of dollar bills.

I had the same problem, but I found this website called Foldin Money and they have fun and easy to do designs AND you use several bills, so it's meant to be taken apart and spent!! I decorated mine up with the brides colors and it looked so cool and they LOVE IT!! It was a total hit! Now I just use those designs for everything, no more headaches for me! FREEDOM, what a rush! :D
www.foldinmoney.com try it!!
