Origami USA Convention 1994!

Post by kareshi »

I just got back from my NYC trip to Origami USA 1994! It took a little while, being trapped on the islands of Circe and Calypso mostly, but here goes.

>> My small Flickr set of photos! See the newest displays by today's origami masters!

I was 11 years old, had gone through Origami Sea Life and Prehistoric Origami and thought I was pretty good. Then going to this convention and seeing all the awesome displays set me back quite a bit.

I met all my favorite authors (minus Robert Lang, who didn't attend this year) and attended John Montroll's workshop of models from his upcoming "North American Animals in Origami." My favorite model, a turtle, didn't make it into the final book :(

I took pictures of the models and displays that most impressed me, and over the years managed to collect all the books in which they were eventually published. All your favorite models today will probably be published eventually, I can imagine a full-length Ryu Zin will be published down the road, probably as a single-model book. So keep hoping!
