This, on the other hand, would most likely be difficult. Barring the placement of the legs, the dragon in that pcture looks slightly longer than the Ryujin. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you might need to find a way to give it a longer aspect ratio--maybe increasing the grid to 128 x 128 or something (I just chose the closest power of 2; the actual grid would be a different number).kowal wrote:@NightBurstLycan: I'll try to help with what I am able to fold, however I am not sure if I'm doing those parts correctly. Also I won't have time for folding for like 1 month, I have exams now
by the way, what do you think about curving body of any ryu zin like on the image below? It has legs placed strangely, but ignoring thisfact we get a nice idea of shaping...

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
That would probably work pretty well if you do it right, which you seem to be doing.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
well, i was thinking about improving the model. i found that folding scale squares with 3:1 proportion (instead of 2:1 current, which is used in most of scaled models) would result in less paper loss on scales. technically it would allow to get a snake body with lenght of about a side of the sheet (instead of about 2/3 in ryu zins), however to make legs it has to be shortened. also i have an idea of making closed back without opening the belly, but it would work on making a snake - i have currently no idea how to make any legs on it.
so it is a very young idea, which will require much work - i'll try to desing a snake first
and fold the ryu zin 3.5, i have more than a half pre-creased

I'm working on 2.1. If I ever finish, may I use a wire to keep the body twisted, or is that unethical?
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
it is even recommended to put a wire inside. it isn't visible, but keeps all the layers in the right position - why not to use it?kareshi wrote:I'm working on 2.1. If I ever finish, may I use a wire to keep the body twisted, or is that unethical?

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Thanks. So far I've just been taking small sections of the 2.1 M/V CP (thanks for that!) and working on parts one at a time. I'm also trying to read the whole thread, but it's pretty long so I think I'll try to finish before asking any questions about how to do this or that. I'm up to page 40 or so, and a lot of good questions have been asked that now have dead links to photos of the answers

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
not that this will help you in any way, daniel brown. but in many ways, your own designs are far more interesting and unique than the ryu-zin.kareshi wrote:Thanks. Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Thank you very much! I'm not quite prepared to compare myself to Kamiya. I find the Ryu Zin to be very innovative, I've never seen a model that works quite like it, and I'm having a good time working out the method. Though I do attempt to make things I haven't seen before, or try a new approach to existing subjects, I don't think I'm at the level of any standard circle packer, which is still a concept I can't understand or use, ODS or not

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
It's hard to "compare" any origami artist to another, let alone Kamiya, simply because of their respective styles of folding. I mean, I've been folding for about 3 1/2 years, and only now--within my last two designs (which are on my DA right now)-- do I see my style coming out.
Good luck with the Ryujins though.

Oh I meant to ask, can we standardize the name to Ryujin from now on, since that's how it's called in Challenge to Super Complex Origami?

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
lol what kind of paper would you have to use.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Large, thin and strong. I think most Ryujin folders end up incorporating wires or glue, so there's that too.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I'd finish it if you can before doing that though. I often go over finished models with invisible tape, to keep together any pained or ripped bits, and even then i try and hide it.
If you have to put it in while folding, it's risky, especially if you don't know where it ends up on the finished model.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I meant they use glue and wires during the finishing touches. Why would somebody glue it before it's finished?
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Because there's a massive rip......
I finished my final ryujin 1.2!! It is massive, and his facial expression (yes, he's got one) is really lazy! It's bright red and about 2ft long!

Cool Harpseal! Please upload pictures!
Folder from Hønefoss, Norway. Pretty advanced, but I'm not that good at designing :P
