With respect to your enthusiasm, are you sure it's appropriate to your ability level? It's kind of like going straight from Fur Elise to the Emperor Concerto.Harpseal wrote:I have got to make 2.1 after iron man.
What size and type of paper?
I'll test fold bits like the head first- what type and size paper for them? What is the grid?
How much is all this paper going to cost? It can't be too much- i'm saving up for fastskin!

Kareshi, i know what you mean- i thought the same thing when i saw the cp () but just collapsing the cp is enough for me- oh yeah i'll shape it a bit, but i seriously need something awesome to make so i feel un-smug after my first iron man, which brings me to the second point of my post- i finished iron man! He looks just like 'the real thing'! I posed him so it looks like he's flying! I even managed to bring out the guns on his forearms! The only thin i don't like is the head, which is a bit square.

2.1 and 3.5 are a world apart. While they are both box pleated, 3.5 is in a whole separate dimension of difficulty. In 2.1, the collapsing is moderately straightforward, with the most challenging part being the neck transition.
In 3.5, however, there is not only the tail, but a more difficult neck, the leg scales, leg scale transitions, and the toes, all of which are very challanging
Yes, I'm aware of that. I was talking about the 2.1, the 3.5 is definately not a model anyone could fold.insaneorigami wrote:2.1 and 3.5 are a world apart. btw, my new kraft paper roll has arrived today: it's 1.5 m wide, 50 m in length, 40 gsm! I think this paper would be good for the Ryujin 3.5. but how big of a square should I make? I was thinking 2.5 m, but that might be too large, since the paper is only 40 gsm thick. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Maybe 2.2 or 2.1, I am folding mine out of 2.2
Folder from Hønefoss, Norway. Pretty advanced, but I'm not that good at designing :P

Jonybb, someone already made the ryuzin 3.5, shuki kato. Heres the picture, http://www.flickr.com/photos/origami-ar ... 184870901/.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Um, many other people here have also folded this model: Karol, Froy, Artur, Paulius, just to name a few. Shuki's ryujin looks amazing too.folding paper wrote:Jonybb, someone already made the ryuzin 3.5, shuki kato
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
In fact, Shuki Kato gathers all the 3.5's he can find into a gallery! It's very interesting to see the different interpretations.

I folded 3.5 too
.
Jonybb: 40 gsm is perfect. I folded 3.5 twice out of 41 gsm and that was a very good thickness. It is thick enough to have body, but not too thick that it becomes exceedingly bulky.

The toes are the only place where mine became bulky, as you can see

The detail in the 3.5 is stunning. How do the scales work? They look impossibly clever.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
they are essentially pleats...in a way.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Thanks- i've been wondering for a while. Your description made it sound even harder-a feat to be proud of, seeing as i didn't think it could!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, ill start the folding soon.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I will too, after a trip to a stationary/art shop. Forunately, i need to go to one of those for something else as well. My search for big enough paper at home wasn't a complete failure. The only big enough paper i could find had a ton of holes in it.
