as long as the wrinkles are not too many, it doesn't matter I think. try to think, how less of the paper will be seen at the finished model. or like mr. Adams once said: don't panic :)

Recently I've been using kami sometimes I'll use foil, but sparingly because it costs more. (I have an almost 4yr old DS who has squashed some stuff for no obvious reason most of the time he's pretty good about what I make)

When I'm not at home for the day, sometimes I'll take advertising junk mail to fold. Mostly it's thinner than kami, but its printed on both sides - fold deails just don't show as well

this is an international board, so you probably shouldn't use abbreviations like that.

I mostly fold only dollar bills, but sometimes I like to fold with just regular kami.

I just recieved a stack of lolly wrappers from my cousin who collected them. I made a hanging mobile out of them. I folded cranes and theaded them onto four strings.

Out of the wrappers I'd say the Lindt Lindor chocolate wrappers made the best cranes because they were foil backed plastic and were the nicest colours.

I am surprised that I don't see anyone saying they use glassine or hanji.
I use have been using black glassine for sometime and I am waiting for some hanji to arrive (supposed to be quite good to fold complex designs)

I'm pretty sure that if I had some origamido paper, I'd say that it's my favorite. Has anyone here tried it before?

I have never folded it, but I picked up a sheet at the convention. I am waiting until I have some more experience with MC backing and wet folding before I try anything, though.

I have a briefcase at home full of random kami and cheap paper I've picked up at asian corner stores. It makes for great modulars!

My recent investment is papermoney and hell bank notes.
My mum had a hell bank note kit she got years ago and in it is heaps of paper that you are supposed to burn for the dead. I don't really understand it (We did it one new years eve...) but it is superb for folding!
There is one particular sheet; a fibrous creme coloured paper, possibly hemp, with gold plating and an orange stripe down the middle. I reckon it would make a great dragon but it is only 12 by 12cm. :(

Foil

Post by GreyGeese »

I received my japanese foil last night. I folded a simple fish to get the feel of it. I am pleased with the thinness and how well it holds creases, but wow were you guys ever right about the difficulty of converting between mountain/valley folds! This seems like a real issue, especially when multiple creases are involved (eg sinks.) Any advice to make it easier?
Some of the models in Lang/Weiss's "Origami Zoo" explicitly call for foil, so I look forward to trying them.
