Help with Gabriel

Post by kingdomwinds »

I am trying to collapse the base of Takashi's Gabriel. How is the circled part collapsed? Also, which creases are valley and mountain folds?

Even though this part looks complicated, if you look closely at the distribution of mountain and valley folds you will notice that actually you don't have to do anything at all. Just keep all those layers together. The creases will come automatically while folding the rest of the model.

As for valley and mountain folds there's a simple rule that will help you for box pleated CPs. With the coloured side down, the outermost creases (the lighter ones in this case) will be valley folds, the other ones (the darker ones) will be mountain folds.

Thanks for the tip. So have you folded this model? I like that fact that it is box pleating because i can actually figure most of the creases out.

I am optimistic that Mr. Hojyo will diagram this model in the near future.

He will probably only make origami insects 3, which i dont really care about. Insects are one of my least favorite subjects in origami. they look cool and all but i prefer humans, dinosaurs, and mythical beings.

I am folding aquarius and im almost done collapsing the base. The most difficult part of this model is folding the water. It is taking me forever to fold. Is there a way to fold the water quickly? It is really hard for me to fold the middle areas of the water. Im a little excited because this is the first compex cp that i have made major progress in.

i am starting to fold gabriel again. I have a question about the hands. Are the hands done in a similar style as kamiya's wizard? Or is it done as kamiya's bahamute?

From the pictures I would say that they are more Bahamut-like. In the end it's up to you though how you shape them. I prefer Wizard-like fingers because I think they are nicer to shape.

If you think that's hard, try Jeremy Schafer's flasher hat!

i am not sure what is going on in the circled part. I have folded the violinist before so i am familar with the pattern but notice how the zigzagging is divided by mountain folds instead of valley folds after the small x. I have no idea what is going on in the circled part. It is different from the zigzags pattern on the left side.

Someone please delete that post.

That area is folded just like in Hojyo's Violinist, forming the waist.

I know but its does not work because the pattern changes. Also, what is the big deal about that post? In the vietnam origami forum, ppl post cp scans from tanteidan magazines and no one minds.

It's a break of copyrights, and that is forbidden by forum rules. If you don't follow the rules you might have to deal with the consequences, so I suggest you edit your posting and remove the CP.

folding those creases like the violinist does not make sense if the model looks like this from underneath. That would not be possible and the zigzagg folds would differ from right to left Image

It will make sense if it looked like this. Then the zigzaging would be the same througout. Image
But im not sure if that is how it is suppose to look like.

It is too bad that i can't make an account in the Vietnamese forum. Most of the members there have folded hojyo's model so probably would be able to give helpful tips. I keep getting an error message when i register. Im guessing ppl in the US can't make accounts.
