Chambered Nautilus Shell

Post by pad »

I have been trying to complete Robert Lang's Chambered Nautilus Shell on and off for about 3 years now.

Oh wait a min.... I am new here. I guess I should say Hi to all first

Hello all

Anyway I have been stuck on step 22 of this model.....

(Robert Lang's Chambered Nautilus Shell, from Origami Sea Life by John Montroll and Robert J. Lang)

and was wondering if anyone here could give me a hint or two about completing the model.

Thanks for any help

Hey there, welcome to the forums.
What kind of problem are you having? Step 22 looks like a series of pleat folds, and it looks like as long as you've made the precreases you should be just folding back on the creases again. I haven't folded this model yet but I guess I'll work through it now. Hope this helps.

Thanks Joess

Yes it does appear easy. I must be missing something it does seem like just a bunch of pleat folds but for some reason I am unable to get it right. ..... rats.

Keep me updated if you can do it, I have never had a problem completing a model .... well that is a lie....

But I almost always figure it out... for some reason this one is giving me fits.

Thanks again.

Oops, I eidited my last post from 'crimp folds' to 'pleat folds', but I was right the first time. But, if you pleat the folds first, it might make crimping easier.
Make the crimps by opening the model up (not all the way, jsut the first colored flap). The mountain folds and valley folds should stretch from one side to the other, alternating, making the whole point go in and out. I can post a pic if you need it but since mine is out of foil it might take some tweaking to make a clear picture...

Ohhhm maybe you're having problems with the way the diagram for step 23 is colored? The first crimped part should be colored, not white like the diagram says.
