help with Flying Grasshopper

Im trying to fold the Flying Grasshopper from the CP in Origami design secrets. I can get all the precreasing, but it just doesnt want to collapse. Has anyone here folded the base? if so, any tips or pictures would be awesome.

you know the references? cool! if you tell me the reference points i could help you ( i managed to find the tarantula's references but not this one.)

actually, me not being 100% purist, measured to find the points along the symmetry line and the edges...im not quite good enough yet to be able to derive all the reference points without measuring. (i was tempted by the cps in the book being exactly 1/3 the size of 9 3/4 inch kami)
