Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Hi everyone,
I am folding the Ryu Zin 3.5 at the moment, but im stucked at the part were you connect the two halfs of the body. Maybe anyone can help me, because i just cant figure out how to do it.
I cant manage to make the top part were the transition units and boxpleating starts lie flat, when i connected the pleats for the scales below. Please someone help me!

Here is a photo of the original part : http://www.flickr.com/photos/morpheusor ... hotostream
and here of the testfold I made : http://www.flickr.com/photos/morpheusor ... hotostream
Can you tell me how many pleats I have to connect? In the CP it looks as if there has to be 5, but I still cant figure out how to connect them at the top part.

Glue is what SK used...i think it was on this part, but it also may have been to connect the pleats on the back together

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
i'm looking for a good way to glue few pieces of rather thick paper together to make a huge square. i will probably use rolls of paper, however i think that glueing 3 or 4 long rectangles won't be a good idea, as i will still have glued parts in 'folded' places (i mean, not in the area which is just pleated).
i found some idea how to solve the problem of huge thickness in glued place, but i'm not sure if i can post here the 3.5 cp (the wrong one, which can be easily found on internet) with the connections between sheets marked - so i'll try to explain:
in the middle of CP there is a 14-unit wide part with only pleats. so i'm going to use two rectangles for parts with scales, legs and other folds and a smaller strip between, so the paper will get a little bigger.
BUT. glued parts will make the paper thick. so i have an idea: as in the half with head and tail there is not much fold between them (no legs), then i can make the middle strip start getting wider - i mean, the connections will start being oblique and no longer match the 96x96 grid - when paper is pleated, the glued parts will be partially moved up and down the body.
what do you think about this idea?
i hope my english isn't so bad that you can't understand the idea
(if it is allowed to post wrong cp of ryu zin 3.5, then i'll post just the pic)
edit: i made a blank image with glued parts shown. if you know the cp, then you'll understand the idea:
scales are on upper and lower sides, head is in top left corner.

I am a beginner at cps. Satoshi Kamiya once said that diagramming this model would take 10 years. sounds worth it to me...

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
he was exagerating, or it may have been an error in translation.
it took Shuki less than a week to diagram his Western Dragon 3, which has the same amount of steps as Bahamut.
Those both have about 250 steps, and Kamiya estimated that ryuzin 3.5 would have about 1000 steps. It wouldn't even take him 2 months to diagram it. But he's very busy late, so he doesn't have quite as much time as our friend Shuki.
(hint hint the ZD2 would have the same or a little less so it would take you only about 2 months to diagram it shuki

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
so all you have to do is unfold the last few parts of scales on the left peice and the first few on the right. then overlap the two edges by 5 units i think and refold the scales while holding both the papers together. if that doesn't make sense i can make a small video but it shouldn't be necessary.MorpheusOrigami wrote:Here is a photo of the original part : http://www.flickr.com/photos/morpheusor ... hotostream
