It is for a simpler dragon model that leads itself to some very interesting variants, perhaps you should practice on some easier to get a better idea how designers think.
Also worth reading other threads on Neal Elias models for example, their is a booklet from the BOS that unlocks the simpler diagrams Neal himself wrote.
I have no idea where you are in the world but if you a really interestd in Origami, join an organisation and get along to a convention, again read the posts ,see the photos about leicester!
By the way I personally do not like the esseltine dragon model - it gets far too thick, and looses it's personality.
