folders.jp hidden files and folders

Post by phillipcurl »

I have compiled a list of links to hidden folders on Kamiya's website that I found. Some of these have cp's that are unreleased on the website pages itself. As these are all links to Kamiya's site this is in no way illegal. It is his own fault for forgetting to hide the folders or change the chmod on them.

What I find interesting is that in the 2009 folder there is an extra cp and picture not shown in the gallery or anywhere else on the website. I didn't check but I believe there is more stuff like this in the other folders.

Note: in the folders except xxxx, names of files that appear like this:

Code: Select all

0902_s.jpg
are thumbnails of the photo. photos who's names appear like this:

Code: Select all

0902_c.png
are crease patterns, and finally, photos who's names appear like this:

Code: Select all

0902.jpg
are the photos used for the page which there are displayed. All .png files are the crease patterns, all .jpg files are the photos of the model. You will sometimes see a .temp file. I am not sure of the use of these, but they appear to be pages for models he has not released anything about yet or are still working on.

Here are the mystery cp's if you are curious.

These have no other info surrounding it other than the cp itself. I'm curious to find out what they are.

this looks like a second version of his giraffe.

Kamiya had a very good rhino design-the fourth photo resembles to a tipical structure of a rhino.
But that model is very old-maybe seven or more years ago, so I don't understand why it appears on the 2009 folder...
EDIT: What is this for?

oh, i can see the rhino now.
maybe he redisigned it or something.
i have no idea what that is for. clearly he set aside the corners for something, so it may be a redo of his "splash" model.

I think he should have not used such a structure for that model, I suggest an earlier version of his horse maybe.

it appears to be what he uses to make his imageboard work, a lot of it is encrypted so I can't tell what it is, but I can make out links to images and emails used to upload them in there. There is what appears to be some encryption keys so this is an exploit. I really think he should start being more smart about security.

It may not be illegal, and it may be easy if you have the right skills, but don't you think it is a bit rude? I am sorry to be the grumpy one raining on your parade! But you say yourself that he doesn't want this stuff shown. Don't you think that it would be nice to respect that? I would have thought that if origami masters like Kamiya feel that they are respected by the community in general then they are more likely to share their works in the form of diagrams and CPs. If what they do provide is abused, it might make them less inclined to engage with the origami community in the future, which would be very sad.

Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, if so I apologise! But perhaps a better way to go about this would be to contact the author for permission first?

You're not making a mountain out of a mole hill. We have lost a few talented Origami artists from this Forum because they felt that their work or their wishes were not being respected.

So, that's the question to consider: for a short term gain of access to some of Kamiya's previous works, are you willing to risk that Kamiya feels that you've shown him disrespect, so that he cuts us off from his future art ?

Just because some this is "Legal" doesn't mean that it's right.
