Morpheus, i see you are using tissue foil from origami-shop. is it a good choice of paper? is it hard to glue sheets together? and how is it behaving in the neck part, where you need to fold many layers?

Origami shop is very good, i've never used it myself but it comes highly reccomended, still, with such a complex model you can't be too sure.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
i think the paper is too thick for that model
i would use tracing or kozo myself

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
well, i have bought a discovery pack from origami-shop, so i know how this tissue foil behaves. i tried to fold a western dragon 3.0 (shuki kato's model) from it, and it indeed thick, and isn't so well shake-keeping - however the golden sheet has so beautiful colour, that i will think about making a ryu zin from this paper
i just need a comment from someone, who actually tried using tissue foil for a ryu zin.
anyway, i will try to fold first ryu zin 3.5 from cheaper paper, like 70gsm kraft or halfparchment paper, those are cheap and come in huge sheets (making a 2m x 2m sheet will be cheaper than one 60cm piece of this tissue foil, including price of glue

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Can anyone recommend a good starting size for a first try at 3.5? I don't have the book yet--i'll have to order it soon--but I've always wanted to fold this model. The largest I have is about 120cm, though I have some 91cm really thin paper that I could glue/tape together to get about 2m with. Which one should I go for?
And for the record I consider myself pretty good with CPs.

120 cm is 1.2 meters, and most people use a 1 meter paper to start with, so that would probably be good.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Should I fold 2.1 first just to get used to the structure, or should I go right to 3.5?

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
i have not done either, but from the looks of the cp's, i would definitely advise you to test fold parts of 2.1, not the whole thing.
if you don't have the book, the do 2.1. The book with the CP has partial diagrams, and it also has diagrams for shaping the head and claws

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
If I can get the square cut accurately (I hate this bond paper) I'm gonna fold 2.1. Then I'll order the book and hopefully fold 3.5 this summer.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I'll be sure to, but it might take a while because I'll only get to fold for a few hours a day.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Go for the easy one first, then the hard one. I know it is hell, as you, for a general rule, see more pictures advertising how amazing the harder one is. I have gone through the same experience too many times to count.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I've visited local paper shop and bought paper for ryu zin 3.5. I won't use the idea of glueing I posted here, as I found rolls 300cm x 70cm - I'm going to use five such rolls, four 21x96 units and one 16x96 units (no glueing on scales, and only hard point should be in head area) - 1 unit overlap on connection between the sheets. I'm going to produce a 288cm x 288cm sheet - guess why exactly those numbers
I have no place to even keep so big piece at home, so I am forced to precrease each piece separately.
time for a challange

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
thats almost three meters... dang.
Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
When i try this model, it's going to be hard to get the paper as i can't get hold of paper bigger than 25cm without ordering from online, which costs more, and i like to have paper around for models which i want to make, as it generally persuades me to make the models i got the paper for, so i was thinking of getting ryujinn paper soon, so what do i do?
