Boxpleated models
I done 2 box pleated models so far. An owl and an ant, the owl is nice but the ant got tossed in the bin straight away. When I see the diagrams of a model that lets you precrease for an hour I usually skip it, but still I would like to start doing some boxpleating so maybe I can learn to incorporate it in my own models.
Now i'm wondering what are some good animal models to start with (diagrams)? Nothing difficult, maybe 2.5 hour folds tops.

Re: Boxpleated models
^ Yes, insects are animals, as are humans.
The only things that come to mind are Robert Lang's Bull Moose and Roman Diaz's Roc. And Le Tuan's Werewolf and Hoang Trung Thanh's Tenzen if those count.

Re: Boxpleated models
Nine-tailed fox by Guspath Go is a relatively simple cp that is created from box pleating (it was my first cp, and I made it in about an hour).
It's a mythological animal, however.
It can be found in this topic: viewtopic.php?t=5650

Re: Boxpleated models
Thank you guys, i'll look into these models.
But your answers leave me with another question:
Is it possible to use a only bit of boxpleating on the model, or is the entire model always boxpleated?
For example, you divide a square into 4 and use 1 of the created squares for a boxpleating technique and use 22.5 angle on the others to create a model? Or can't this be done. (I can't 'read' CP or fold them)

Re: Boxpleated models
Satoshi Kamiya does that pretty frequently--the trick is to cleanly terminate the pleats somehow. I personally wish I knew how to use such a structure effectively, but it just gives me something to work toward.

Re: Boxpleated models
Yes, I've seen many cp hybrids of box and circle pleating. Some of Brian Chan's models do that as well.

Re: Boxpleated models
There are also a few Jason Ku models with that technique, I believe (haven't checked his site in a while).
How could I forget Thanh's Swordsman?
That's another diagrammed box-pleat that's relatively easy.

Re: Boxpleated models
He specifically requested diagrams. That's why I only mentioned models that were diagrammed.roodborst wrote:some good animal models to start with (diagrams)?

Re: Boxpleated models
I realized, Baltorigamist--that's why I suggested a relatively simple boxpleated (mythological) animal.
Take from it what you would like.

Re: Boxpleated models
I'll have to see if I can get the CP for my Cuddling Dogs model up on DA or Flickr. It's a really simple box-pleat, only a 12x12 grid, but it takes a lot of shaping. I've been debating whether or not to diagram it--some of the 3D shaping at the end is really trucky.

Re: Boxpleated models
There is a fun boxpleated model by Fernando Gilgado, the jester. It's on Gabriel Vong's site.
